Pharmacy & Prescription Drug Coverage Information

What is the difference between Part B and Part D?

Part B
Drug Coverage

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) provides coverage for a limited selection of outpatient prescription drugs in specific situations.

Typically, this includes medications that you wouldn’t administer on your own, such as those given in a doctor’s office or a hospital outpatient facility.

Part D
Drug Coverage

Medicare drug coverage (Part D) includes a broad selection of prescription medications used by people with Medicare.

The list of covered drugs, known as a “formulary,” varies by plan, as each plan has its own. These formularies are usually organized into different “tiers,” with each tier having its own cost level.
